Each menu item in Direct Ordering has a set of details that can be edited, from its customer-facing name and description to images, tags, allergens, nutrition, and modifiers. This article explains how to open a menu item and what can be added or edited.
Opening a Menu Item
Follow the steps below to edit a menu item:
Item Settings
The Settings tab holds the core details for the item:
- Name: The customer-facing item name.
- Internal Name: The name received from Checkmate, used for menu mapping. This field is read-only. For details, see Menu Item Names and Internal Names.
- Contains Alcohol: Marks the item as containing alcohol.
- Description: The full item description shown to guests.
- Short Description: A brief version of the description.
- Ingredients: The ingredients in the item.
- Shorthand: A short internal label for the item.
- Temperature: Hot or Cold.
- Item Type: An item type defined under Settings > Miscellaneous > Item Types.
- Related Meal Item: Links a related meal item to this item.
- Featured Position: Sets the item's position when it is featured.
- Start Date and End Date: Schedule the dates the item is available.
- Sales Tax Override: Overrides the default sales tax rate for the item.
- Item Shape: Circular or Rectangular, controlling the shape of the item's image on the storefront.
- Exclude From Builder: Excludes the item from the menu builder.
- Hide from customer website: Hides the item from the customer-facing website.
Select Submit to save changes.
Additional Item Details
Beyond Settings, each menu item has additional tabs for managing related details:
- Images: Upload item images (Raw, Small, Large, and App). For details, see Managing Menu Descriptions and Images.
- Tags: Associate tags with the item. For details, see Using Tags and Allergens.
- Allergens: Associate allergens with the item. For details, see Using Tags and Allergens.
- Loyalty Bonus: Associate one or more loyalty bonuses with the item.
- Loyalty Tier: Associate one or more loyalty tiers with the item.
- Nutritional Info: Add nutritional details for the item, including serving size, serving weight, calories, calories from fat, total fat, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, sodium, total carbohydrates, dietary fiber, sugar, and protein.
- Modifier Groups: Associate modifier groups with the item.
- Upsells: Configure upsell suggestions for the item. For details, see Configuring Upsells in the Direct Ordering Admin Panel.
