Upsells are item suggestions that appear at key points in the ordering journey: when a guest selects an item, adds products to the cart, or begins checkout. Upsells help customers discover more of the menu and can increase the average check size by encouraging add-ons such as drinks, sides, or desserts.
In Direct Ordering, upsells are configured directly in the Admin Panel at the item, cart, or checkout level.
Configuring Upsell Settings
Upsells can be created based on:
- The item a customer selects
- The contents of the cart
- The checkout stage before payment
Follow the steps in the Direct Ordering Admin Panel to set up an upsell:
Configuring Upsell Items
To control which items or categories are suggested as upsells, configure category-level and item-level upsells:
- Category-Level Upsells apply the same upsell and similar-item rules to all items in that category.
- Item-Level Upsells create targeted rules for individual items.
Follow the steps below to configure upsell items:
Tips and Best Practices
- Upsells work only for items that are active and available on the menu.
- Multiple upsell rules can be created for a single item or cart condition.
- Avoid suggesting items that are frequently sold out.
- Preview changes by placing a test order on the staging or live site.
