What Are Recommendations?
Recommendations are automated and manual product suggestions displayed to customers while they place an order. These recommendations help customers quickly add complementary items based on past trends or customized settings.
Types of Recommendations

Automated Recommendations: AI-generated suggestions based on historic order data. The system analyzes previous purchasing trends and recommends items commonly bought together.

Manual Recommendations: Custom upsell suggestions that can be configured in the Upsells feature within the Checkmate Portal, allowing businesses to override AI-generated recommendations.
Where Are Recommendations Displayed?
Recommendations are configured in the Checkmate Portal but are displayed on the Direct Ordering platform when customers place an order. The AI continuously learns from past orders, improving its recommendations over time.
For example, if a customer orders a burger, the system might suggest fries and a soft drink based on historical data. This helps streamline the ordering process and increases the likelihood of customers adding more items to their carts.
Note: This feature is currently available only for Direct Ordering.
How to Set Up Recommendations
Contact our Customer Support team here to set up Upsell Recommendations for your menu.
Each item can have up to three recommendations, which will be displayed in the order you provide. If you include fewer than three, the system will automatically fill the remaining spots based on past order data.
If no manual selections are provided, all recommendations will be generated automatically using ordering trends.
To request recommendations for your menu, share the details in the following format:

In this case, customers ordering a Cheeseburger will see Fries, Coke, and Chocolate Chip Cookies as recommendations—shown in that exact order.
For Chicken Tenders, since only two items are provided, our system will automatically fill in a third suggestion based on past ordering behavior.

Yes, you can use both manual and automated recommendations, but there is a limit of three total recommendations per item. Only the top three will be shown to customers.
