To improve delivery accuracy and the courier experience, customer contact details and pickup instructions are included in the order sent to Uber Direct (UD) couriers. This helps couriers reliably identify and contact the correct recipient, especially in scenarios such as office buildings or third-party pickups.
What Checkmate Sends to Uber Direct
The following information is passed to Uber Direct and displayed in the courier's delivery app:
- Contact Name
- Contact Phone Number
- Ordering Customer Name (included for reference and POS matching)
This information appears in the Pickup Notes field of the order sent to Uber Direct.
Why Pickup Notes Matter
In some cases, the person placing the order is different from the person receiving it. For example, a receptionist might place a lunch order for several people in an office. Some POS systems receive only the ordering customer's name from the Checkmate integration, so the following details are added to support a successful delivery:
- The Contact Name and Contact Phone Number are sent when those fields are configured in the Direct Ordering checkout settings.
- The ordering customer's name is appended to the pickup notes for reference, which helps the courier cross-check against the POS printout.
Example
- Ordering Customer: John Smith
- Contact Name: Lisa Patel
- Contact Phone: (555) 123-4567
The pickup notes sent to the Uber Direct courier read: Contact: Lisa Patel, (555) 123-4567 | Order placed by: John Smith. This lets the courier match the delivery to the POS ticket and contact the correct recipient.
Where Pickup Notes Can Be Set
Pickup instructions can be set at three levels within Direct Ordering:
- Revenue Center (highest priority)
- Store
- Brand (lowest priority)
How to Configure Pickup Notes
Pickup notes can be configured at the Revenue Center, Store, or Brand level using the walkthroughs below.

Allowing Customers to Provide a Different Pickup Contact
When orders are frequently placed by someone other than the pickup contact (for example, office or group delivery), additional contact fields can be enabled at checkout. When the Contact Name and Contact Phone Number fields are enabled in the checkout settings:
- Customers can enter the name and phone number of the actual recipient during checkout.
- These details are sent to Uber Direct and displayed to the courier for an accurate, direct handoff.
This is especially useful when the account holder places an order on behalf of someone else. If the setting is not enabled, the account name and phone number of the person placing the order are used in the pickup notes instead, which may not reflect the actual recipient. The walkthrough below shows how to let customers enter a separate contact name and number at checkout:
