Direct Ordering’s goal is to reduce as many barriers to customer checkout as possible. We have made it very easy for customers to reorder past orders (related article), but we also make it very easy for customers to reorder their favorite items.
What additional Menu Features can I add to my Customer-facing menu?
Most menu tiles are linked directly to your restaurant’s Menu Categories and can thus only be changed within the Checkmate portal. That being said, your restaurant has the option to add additional menu feature tiles within Direct Ordering, so they appear on your customers’ Menu page. These easy-access tiles can assist them in locating their favorite menu items more quickly.
These additional (and optional) Menu tiles include:
Favorites
Displays any past items that were ‘favorited’ by a logged-in customer.
> The remainder of this article will focus on “Favorites”.
Recents
Displays items recently ordered by a logged-in customer.
Featured
Displays any Featured items as designated in your backend by the optional “Featured Position” field that is present on every menu item in your Direct Ordering backend.
> This setting can be found under Menus > Menus > choose a Menu > select the Item > enter a number in the Featured Position field. The number entered will determine the order in which the featured items appear in the customer’s Featured section.
Deals
Displays any Deals set up in your backend under Loyalty > Deals configured to appear with the given Order Type and Store Location.
How to enable “Favorites” on Desktop & Mobile Web Ordering
In your Direct Ordering Admin Panel
Go to Pages > Menu
Scroll down to these two sections:
Optional Sections on Desktop - Settings for menu feature display on Desktop Web Ordering.
Optional Sections on Mobile - Settings for menu feature display Mobile Web Ordering.
Drag and drop any combination of menu features from the Hidden column to the Displayed column (or vice versa). Menu features added to the Displayed column will appear on your customer-facing Web Ordering as individual menu tiles at the top of the Menu Page, so they are the first thing the customer sees when they land there.
Note: The order in which these menu features are organized in the Displayed column is the exact order in which they will appear online to your customer.Click Submit to save your changes.
How a Customer can “Favorite” a Menu Item
Once this feature is activated, a customer can favorite as many menu items as they’d like. Here’s how:
A customer logs in to your Online Ordering website.
> Note: Favorites are associated with unique customer email addresses, so the customer must be logged in to save a “favorite” to their account. They locate a favorite menu item and click the heart symbol to “favorite” it. An item can be “unfavorited” by simply clicking the heart again.
Once favorited, anytime the customer lands on your main menu ordering page, they will be able to click on the “Favorites” tile to see all items they have favorited in the past.
> Note: Past “Favorited” items can only be accessed from the Menu page once a specific Store Location has been selected (displayed in screenshots below). Favorites cannot be accessed directly from the customer’s profile or from the customer’s hamburger menu in the upper right of their screen.
