Customer view of Business Hours in Direct Ordering
The hours displayed to customers on your Online Ordering locations page are in no way linked to your actual Direct Ordering menu hours set within your Checkmate portal. Direct Ordering provides a simple plain-text field so you can fully control the exact business hours your customers see, rather than displaying any ‘special hours’ you may have set in order to manipulate the time that your final customer order of the day is accepted.
How Hours Work in Checkmate + Direct Ordering
Currently, in Direct Ordering, the last allowable ASAP order placed by a customer each day is controlled by the Closing Time that you’ve set within the Checkmate Portal minus the Wait Time you set in that corresponding menu’s Revenue Center within Direct Ordering.
There are generally 2 types of Hours models for restaurants:
Restaurants that accept final orders at Closing Time minus Wait Time.
Ex: Restaurant Closes at 10pm, with a wait time of 20 minutes. You want to accept new customer orders, so the final order will be picked up by 10pm. Thus, the last allowable ASAP order placed by a customer is at 9:40pm, with a pick-up time of 10pm. The restaurant would set its Closing Time to 10pm.
Restaurants that accept orders up through Closing Time.
Ex: Restaurant Closes at 10pm, with a wait time of 20 minutes. You want to accept new customer orders all the way up through 10pm, so the last allowable ASAP order placed by a customer is at 10pm, with a pick-up time of 10:20pm. The restaurant would set its Closing Time to 10:20pm.
If Direct Ordering didn't offer a custom “Hours Description” text field, restaurants falling under Type 2 above would display a Closing Time of 10:20pm, which could unintentionally mislead customers into thinking that your restaurant is open later than it actually is.
The “Hours Description” field exists in Direct Ordering, so you can have full control over the business hours your customers see. This field is optional, but you can edit it at any time.
How to change the hours that are displayed to Customers on my Online Ordering page
In your Direct Ordering Admin Panel
Go to Stores > Select the Store you’d like to edit.
This defaults to the Settings page, where you can scroll to the bottom to edit the “Hours Description” Field. Any text entered here will display word-for-word on your Online Ordering webpage for the specified Store.
> The screen recording below shows how to update the Hours Description from “Sunday-Saturday 11am-11pm” to “Sunday-Saturday 11am-10pm”.
The screenshot below is the resulting customer-facing locations page, which now reflects a closing time of 10pm for the Fashion District location only.
Note: Changing this Hours Description does not change your actual business hours; this is just a description. Changing your actual hours must be done within the Checkmate portal.
