Checkmate Digital Menu Boards (DMBs) are designed to update automatically through your POS. In most cases, issues can be solved with a few quick checks. This guide explains what you can manage yourself, what updates automatically, and how to troubleshoot the most common problems.
What Updates Automatically
Your DMB stays in sync with your POS. Most changes require no action from staff.
| Action in POS | Effect on DMB | Expected Time |
|---|---|---|
| Mark item Out of Stock | The item disappears from the screen | Within 15–20 minutes |
| Mark item Back In Stock | Item reappears | Within 15–20 minutes |
| Update item pricing | New price displays | Within 15–20 minutes |
| Add/remove items | Item added or removed from the screen | Within 15–20 minutes |
Note: If the change does not appear after 20 minutes, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.
How to Manage Your DMB
You do not need to log in to a separate system. All changes are managed directly through your POS.
- Mark Items as Out of Stock: In your POS, mark the item as 86’d or unavailable. The DMB will automatically remove the item.
- Update Menu Prices: Update prices in your POS, and they will update on your DMB without additional steps.
- Add or Remove Items: Add or delete items from your POS menu. The DMB will reflect the update automatically if properly configured.
- Check Screen Behavior: Look at the DMB after changes. If items or prices are not showing correctly after 20 minutes, follow the troubleshooting steps below or reach out to us here.
Troubleshooting Digital Menu Boards
All Screens Are Blank
This usually indicates a power issue.
- Locate your building’s circuit breaker panel.
- Find the breaker labeled for DMBs or menu boards.
- If the breaker is tripped (in the middle or OFF position):
- Push it fully to OFF.
- Then flip it back to ON.
- Wait 2–3 minutes. Screens should restart automatically.
If screens stay blank after resetting the breaker, contact support.
One or Two Screens Are Blank
This usually means an issue with an individual screen.
- Locate the remote control for your display.
- Point it at the blank screen and press Power. The screen may have been turned off accidentally.
- If the screen does not power on, check that the power cable is connected securely.
- If still blank, contact support. Be ready to tell them which screen is affected (e.g., “middle screen” or “right screen”).
“Page Load Error”
This indicates the DMB cannot connect to the internet.
- Test internet access on another device (phone or computer) connected to the same network.
- If the internet is down → contact your internet provider. The DMB will recover once the connection is restored.
- If the internet is working → continue below.
- Restart your network router or modem.
- Wait 5 minutes for the connection to re-establish.
- The DMB should reload automatically.
- If the error remains after the internet is confirmed to be working, contact support.
Menu Is Not Updating
If menu updates from your POS are not showing:
- Confirm the update was saved correctly in your POS.
- Wait at least 15–20 minutes for the DMB to refresh.
-
If the change is still missing:
- Restart your POS terminal to confirm the sync process.
- Check if the change appears on any other ordering channel (kiosk, online ordering).
- If the update still does not appear, contact support with:
- Store name or ID
- Item or price that is missing/incorrect
- The time the change was made in the POS
- A photo of the DMB screen
