How does Scan Order Pay work?
Our Scan Order Pay feature allows customers to place an order on your Direct Ordering mobile website when they visit one of your restaurants in person.
The basic workflow for customers is:
Scan: scan a QR code to pull up the current menu on their phone.
Order: add items to their order.
Pay: enter their first & last name and pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay (or by entering their credit card information directly).
If customers have established accounts, they will be given an opportunity to sign in, but this is not required. It's possible for customers to be signed into their accounts on their phones already, in which case they won't be prompted to enter their first and last names as they're checking out (as the mobile website will already know it).
If customers are signed in, they can redeem rewards, credits, or loyalty points, earn credits or points for their purchases, reorder past orders, and pay with saved credit cards. So there are some nice benefits, but, again, this is not required.
Downloading QR Codes to be used for Scan Order Pay
A QR code links to a specific website URL that allows a customer to easily start the workflow described above. You can download and use one or more QR codes for your restaurant based on the workflow you are trying to accomplish.
Direct Ordering has conveniently pre-loaded the three most commonly used QR Codes to each Revenue Center of each Store location within your brand. You can simply download them from the Direct Ordering Admin Panel, test them, print them on posters/placards/table tents, and start using them right away.
Note: You also have the ability to create a different QR Code for each table in your restaurant.

How our QR Codes Work
As mentioned above, Direct Ordering generates these QR Code links on your behalf, but you can expect the general URL format of our QR Codes to look like this:
https://[your Direct Ordering website]/qr/[ID of revenue center for restaurant]
The bracket data will be replaced with your own restaurant's data, such as this example:
https://sushi.sandbox.opentender.io/qr/1468
Here's a QR code for the URL above if you'd like to test it:
Scanning this QR code will take you to a landing page that looks like this:

Our URLs include additional parameters that allow you to preselect "Prep Types": Eat Here, Take Out, and/or Table Number. These preselections allow customers to be directed exactly where you want them to go via the QR Code, and you can meet the needs of your specific restaurant's workflow. Adding table numbers to your URL allows you to create specialized QR codes for each table in your restaurant so you can ensure the customer's dine-in order is delivered to the correct table.
See below for examples of each available type of QR Code and how they will look to your customer:
Nothing preselected:
Format: https://[domain]/qr/[ID]
When to use this option: If you want to give customers a choice of dining in or taking to-go.
Preselect "Eat Here" prep type:
Format: https://[domain]/qr/[ID]?prep_type=EAT_HERE
Example: Direct Ordering Web App
When to use this option: If you want customers to dine-in only.
Preselect "Take Out" prep type:
Format: https://[domain]/qr/[ID]?prep_type=TAKE_OUT
Example: Direct Ordering Web App
When to use this option: If you want customers to take their orders to-go only.
Preselect table number:
Format: https://[domain]/qr/[ID]?table=[table number]
Example: Direct Ordering Web App
When to use this option: If you want to give customers a choice of dining in or taking to-go, while also requiring their food be delivered to a specific table.
Note: If your restaurant has 20 tables, you will need to create a different QR for each table (all 20 of them). Thankfully, there is an easy way to do this in bulk, as described in a related section of this article: Download Custom QR Codes for each table in your Restaurant
Preselect table number and "Eat Here" prep type:
Format: https://[domain]/qr/[ID]?prep_type=EAT_HERE&table=[table number]
Example: Direct Ordering Web App
When to use this option: If you want customers to dine-in only and have their food delivered to a specific table.
Card Not Present Transaction Classification
It's important to be aware of the fact that Scan Order Pay orders are technically e-commerce transactions, so your payment processor will charge you "Card Not Present" payment processing rates. These are more expensive than the "Card Present" rates that you get when processing a customer's credit card through your point of sale.
