What is a CAPTCHA and what is it used for?
CAPTCHA stands for the Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart. CAPTCHAs provide challenges that are difficult for computers to perform but relatively easy for humans. For example, identifying stretched letters/numbers, or clicking on a specific type of photo within a provided photo grid.
Adding a CAPTCHA is one way to prevent cybercriminals from using your site for card testing, where a bot is used to test large numbers of stolen credit cards by placing small test transactions on an e-commerce site. Rest assured, these credit cards were not stolen from you or Direct Ordering - we are PCI compliant, and we don't store credit card data ourselves. Rather, the stolen credit card numbers were acquired elsewhere, but cybercriminals can use ANY e-commerce site to test them. You can read more about card testing here: Card Testing Fraud: What You Need to Know.
About Google ReCAPTCHA
In order to enhance security on your checkout page or other pages associated with customer credit cards, Direct Ordering makes it easy for you to add a Google reCAPTCHA (a CAPTCHA service owned by Google) above the Submit button. Here's what the reCAPTCHA looks like when a customer adds a new credit card to their profile:
How to add Google reCAPTCHA to your Direct Ordering site:
Follow these steps to set up your Google reCAPTCHA:
Navigate to your Direct Ordering Admin Panel
Click Settings (gear icon)
In the User Experience section > Click Recaptcha
Choose which credit card forms on your Direct Ordering website that you'd like to include the Google ReCAPTCHA security measure
Note: You can toggle this security measure on and off at any time.
How a customer experiences Google ReCAPTCHA
At checkout, when a customer attempts to add a new Credit Card payment, the reCAPTCHA pop-up will force them to check the "I'm not a robot" checkbox to prove they are human. This action will add their new card, and they will be able to checkout using this credit card now and for any other order going forward.
