To set-up item level tax rates in your Heartland POS:
Step 1: Log into your Heartland | Restaurant account.
Step 2: Select "All Locations" in the header menu
Note: If "All Locations" is not selected, the functionality to add tags to an Item is Disabled or greyed out.
Step 3: Check and make a note of the Tax names in the system by going to the "Account Menu" → "Taxes" in the Left-Hand side-bar

Step 4: Go to "Tags" in the Left-Hand side-bar under "Account Menu"
In the above screenshot, you can see multiple Tags; the tag "City Tax" is available and matches the one from the "Taxes" tab.
Note: The names of tags are case-sensitive and should exactly match the name in "Taxes" Section.
Follow these steps, to create a tax rate tag (we have used "State Tax:" in the example below):

Click on the "New" Button

Fill in the tag name in the "Name" field to match the tax you are setting up - in this case, we are using "State Tax" and Click on "Save":

Step 5: Select the required Tag and Select as many items as you want in the "Assigned Items" Section and Click on "Save":
- Alternately, the tags can be set on an individual item from that Individual Item's page - from the "Account Menu" → "Items" page as well by selecting Item to show Individual Item's page and set Tags in the Tags field and Click on "Save"
